Three Reasons Why Glenn Doman's Reading Program Revolutionized Early Childhood Literacy with Big, Bold, and Red Words

The Doman Method™ reading program originated with my grandfather, Glenn Doman, and his groundbreaking book, "How to Teach Your Baby to Read," published in 1964. Since its release, over 5 million parents worldwide have utilized the information to teach their children to read, including my parents, Douglas and Rosalind. As a family, we established Doman Learning to empower parents to instill the joy of early reading and math in their children before school age, much like my parents did for me. We designed the courses and materials at Doman Learning to assist modern parents in teaching their children in the simplest and most effective manner possible.

The Importance of the Visual Word Form Area

The efficacy of the Doman Method reading program lies in its reliance on the remarkable visual word form area (VWFA) in the brain. The VWFA is a tiny powerhouse in the brain that is responsible for looking at a word and recognizing it, and astonishingly, it is already organized and developed at birth. This is why Doman Learning's reading materials are large, bold, and prominently red.

Why are Doman Method™ Reading Materials Big, Bold, and Red?

By introducing large, red, and clear words at the right moment, Doman Learning taps into this innate readiness, transforming the journey to reading into a thrilling adventure for your little ones. The reading materials are impossible to miss for those tiny eyes, infusing a sense of excitement with the use of the color red. This strategic approach is not just about appearances; it's about expediting word learning and ensuring that these newfound skills stick with your little learners.

Repetition, Repetition, Repetition

Now, let's delve into the art of repetition. How many times must your child see a word to read it? On average, about 15 times. Our decades of experience at Doman Learning have demonstrated that by presenting the same word three times a day for five days, your child not only learns to read but does so with joy and enthusiasm. Lastly, how do we facilitate the storage of information in the child's brain?

Why Organizing Words into Themes is Crucial for Effective Learning

Have you ever wondered why in the Doman Method we group words by themes such as jobs, activities, and foods? Well, it's not a random choice. Your child's brain naturally organizes related information, making it easier for them to retain reading words. More importantly, categorizing the sets makes it more enjoyable for the child. Imagine the delight in their eyes as they explore words linked to their favorite foods or activities – that's the magic of categorization at play.

The Joy of Learning

Parents, as you embark on the adventure of early learning with the Doman Method, remember that it's not just about words on a page. It's about nurturing the natural curiosity and readiness of your child's mind. Embrace the joy, celebrate the milestones, and witness as your little one unfolds the magic of reading and learning with Doman Learning.
